Octomom Bankruptcy Gets Dismissed

|

On April 30, Nadya Suleman, better known as "Octomom" filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy here in the Central District of California, Santa Ana division. At the time, the mother of 14 children had recently gone on welfare and her home was facing foreclosure. The bankruptcy filing stopped the foreclosure process and would have eliminated most of her debts.

However, earlier this week, her bankruptcy filing was dismissed by the bankruptcy court for failing to provide the proper bankruptcy documents. As a result, Ms. Suleman will not get a discharge of debt, her home is again facing foreclosure and she will not be able to refile for bankruptcy for 180 days.

What is the lesson to be learned? If you are filing for bankruptcy, make sure you do it right. Bankruptcy is a complicated process, with numerous documents that have to be filed with the bankruptcy court within a certain deadline. Failing to do this could result in having your case dismissed, just like what happened to Ms. Suleman. It is important that you hire someone who you trust and who is competent, so that you can have a successul bankruptcy without any bumps in the road.
