Can Bankruptcy Stop Wage Garnishment?

|

Yes!  A creditor can use court orders to garnish your wages-automatically deduct a percentage of your paycheck.  However, bankruptcy can prevent wage garnishment through something called an "automatic stay."

The "automatic stay" immediately stops all creditors from collecting during your bankruptcy case.  Bankruptcy can also erase your debt including the debt behind your wage garnishment.  In some cases, you may even be able to get back some of the money that was garnished.

Bankruptcy can stop wage garnishment during your case and can even permanently erase those debts.  If your wages are being garnished, please consult an attorney to determine how bankruptcy can help you.
